Best Red Lip Looks

A classic red lip. The first thing that comes to mind is a timeless red carpet look or a glamorous shot of Marilyn Monroe or Taylor swift with their timeless and sultry red lip look. I wanted to dedicate a blog solely to red lip looks because not only can they be hard to pull off but it can be hard to determine when the right time to wear a red lip is. I wanted to break it all down for when you may be pairing your makeup look and fit with a red colored lip!

Different Shades

The first point I want to make is that many people have given up on red lipstick because it didn’t look good on them one time but it is a look that takes practice. It’s also not an everyday or low-key look so it might not look bad per say but it might just be different than what one may be used to. The first biggest tip? Understand that there are different shades of red before you retire the idea of a red lipstick color altogether. There is nothing like the look of an orange-red colored lipstick, and if you aren't utterly obsessed with your classic, bold, and deep red lip, this is a great way to tone it down and a much more subtle approach to wearing a statement color. Those with a cooler undertone should reach for more of a blue-red color, while warmer skin tones can lean toward an orange-like color. If you have neutral skin tones, congratulations, both will probably suit you perfectly.

Classic

If you don't completely hate the look of a deep classic red on you, the look of your typical t.swift red shade is timeless and elegant. A dark and true red lip shade can do a great job of making your features pop and can immediately class and dress up any look when paired with the right outfit, white or black clothing especially. This color in a matte shade is everything.

Glossy, Baby

Next, I couldn't help but use Hailey Bieber as a form of inspiration somewhere in here because most of her lip looks are so trendy right now. It has always been a concept, but seeing her in more wet and glossy red shades as opposed to your typical matte lip is so refreshing and unique. This allows you to make a statement and have an extra moment while still simultaneously appearing soft and feminine because of the shine and gloss. I also love the idea of matching your nails or nail tips to your red shade for an event or look. The coordination between the two make for the perfect staple.

Red Lip and Face Makeup

We have to touch on what kind of makeup pairs well with red lips for an optimal look. The best advice is to keep colors natural and neutral when rocking a red lip. Even if you go full glam, chill with the funky blush and shadows of blues and instead opt for a sharp black wing and a natural lid and crease colors (browns, creams, etc.) This will do a great job at not pulling attention away from your lips and also not making your makeup look too busy. (You want your lips to have their moment!)

What to Wear

When you're making a statement with a bold and bright lip color, it’s important to ensure that your outfit looks cohesive and blends well with the makeup look as opposed to wearing something that overwhelms, or takes attention away from the look. For instance, neutral colors such as whites, blacks, creams, and other minimal solids look beautiful with a red lip and complement it very well. Chic, business casual, and dressier attire also pairs well and gives it that classy vibe. Red also looks great against gold jewelry and compliments it well. For this reason, don't forget to reach into your accessory drawer and add some gold.
