The Power of Personal Branding
ACT LIKE YOU ARE THE CLIENT
That’s right… you need to take yourself seriously. This means, planning your feed, scheduling your posts, and editing like you would send it to a client if you were running their socials. When you put the idea out of your head that you are running your own page and treat yourself like a client, you trick your brain into taking yourself more seriously. This will help with consistency, strategy, quality, and even confidence. This confidence attracts opportunities, collaborations, and partnerships that can further enhance your personal brand.
USE THE RIGHT SOFTWARE
We are not the only people who have thought of upping their digital presence. That is why it is no surprise that there are tons of resources and softwares out there that can help you! Some of my favorite softwares that I have used and/or currently use are below:
Inpreview: This app helps me plan my feed ensuring that my posts are cohesive and stick to my aesthetic.
Tezza: This app is the best for editing because it has so many different vibes and aesthetics. You can easily make your photo look like it was taken on a film camera in just 3 clicks.
Instagram scheduling tool: If you know you won’t remember to post or when you do go to post, you back out because you get in your own head… then use the schedule tool on Instagram! This way it is not only taken care of for you but you can just let the post go and not sit there perfecting it.
Retouch: Speaking of perfecting… the app Retouch has saved my photos multiple times. Imagine you take an awesome picture but someone is blowing their nose in the background, yes we all have been there. BUT, Retouch is a phone friendly photoshop and within two seconds, you can get rid of any background.
These apps are mostly free or inexpensive and they have been crucial to my success online. I highly recommend learning them and using them for your new digital journey.
FIND YOUR AESTHETIC
This one is definitely the most difficult, because I know what you are thinking… HOW?! It took me years to find my aesthetic and I still change it up sometimes but here is what has helped me and I am sure it has also helped others.
Read the book: “How to Steal like an Artist.” This book is about using other people for inspiration to find your own way. Find three influencers that inspire you and put something from each of them into one. Boom, you have a better idea of what you want your page to be.
Spend more time creating than scrolling: It is no coincidence that I feel like I am a nobody when I spend the most time online. I have access to millions of peoples lives. That is not normal and it is so easy to start comparing. Therefore, the time you spend scrolling or stalking, put into designing and thinking.
Pinterest: I am a pinterest slu*! I absolutely love pinterest because it is a never ending moodboard to look at and get inspired. Start saving pins that resonate with you and add your own spin to them. I have hundreds of boards that I save for all different aspects in my life. From workouts to photo inspiration.
Although this is the most difficult, finding your own aesthetic is ultimately what will help you stick out from the others. Start slow and don’t overwhelm yourself, this part takes time and if you rush it, it won’t feel true to yourself.
Remember, by treating yourself as a client and approaching your personal brand with the same level of commitment and professionalism, you signal to both yourself and others that you are serious about your online presence. Don’t do it all alone. Use softwares and resources, there are literally apps for everything. Lastly, find your aesthetic but make it realistic and true to yourself. Take your time and ensure that it is more enjoyable than anything. In no time, you will have a personal brand for yourself!
